What a great fall we have had so far! Many of you told us how much you enjoyed pumpkin picking, getting lost in our corn maze, and eating all the tasty items we grew and made in October.
Well, pumpkin and corn maze season may be over, but the season of good eating continues at our farm. Our farm kitchen and bakery team continues making food for our farm market and will soon be busy cooking and baking for the holidays.
While our intrepid field crew is enjoying a somewhat slower pace, we've remained busy. Here are some of the things we've been doing.
Finishing our fall harvest. We’ve dug up lots of potatoes, beets, carrots, and sweet potatoes, and picked winter squash, along with a smattering of Brussels sprouts. Be sure to pick up one or more of our harvest boxes. Packed with our winter squash, potatoes, and beets, it's a good deal on produce from our fields.
Planting our hydroponic greenhouses with lettuce. It’s looking good and growing well. We're planning on harvesting our salad mix and lettuce for you until we close at the end of December.
Cleaning up our fields, picking rocks, and planting cover crops for enhanced soil health. Our fields are looking good, and the cover crops are taking root. (If you are a home gardener, now is a good time to do some similar things, including getting your soil test sent off to UNH.)
Taking care of maintenance around our greenhouses. We replaced a few of the greenhouse fronts and freshened them up with paint. We use these greenhouses to grow plants for our fields and your gardens, so we want to make sure they remain in good shape.
Planning for next year. We see the tip of the iceburg, I think! Next year’s harvests start now with us looking at what we want to grow for you, ordering seeds, and doing lots of things needed to make it all happen when spring arrives.
Getting ready for the holiday season. Earlier this week, our field crew headed off to the northern part of New Hampshire to harvest fresh evergreens. Staring late this week our field crew transitions to being the “wreath crew.”
We’re looking forward to making plenty of fresh holiday decorations for your home and office.
So visit us and enjoy the slower paced, friendly atmosphere of this time of year as we get ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
