How we make Christmas wreaths at our farm

For years, we've been making Christmas wreaths at our farm for homes and businesses. Here's a behind the scenes look at how we make wreaths in fun shapes, such as Christmas trees, candy canes, stars, and crosses, as well as traditional round wreaths ranging from 8" to 48" in diameter.

In late November, our field crew heads to a Christmas tree farm in northern New Hampshire with several trucks. Instead of picking vegetables as they do from spring through mid-fall, our crew selects and harvests "brush" from several types of trees. This means we have fresh, aromatic greens for your wreaths.

The next step is clipping the greens into small sections that are roughly the same size. This is a labor intensive process, but it's the way we can make such high quality wreaths. It takes many "clippers" to keep up with the person "sewing" the round wreaths, as you'll see from the time lapsed video below.

We use a machine similar to a sewing machine to attach the greens to our round wreaths. It takes practice and careful attention. For many of our specialty shaped wreaths, such as stars, we tie the greens by hand.

Once the greens are attached, the wreaths either go out to our garden center to be sold to people who like to decorate their own, or they go into one of our greenhouses for decorating. If someone has placed an order for a custom wreath, we'll decorate it especially for them and may even add items that hold special meaning for them.

Can we make a wreath for you?
