Jeff's farm update: Transitioning into the next season at the farm

We have been blessed with some beautiful days this fall season. Filled with clear skies, corn maze fun, tractor and horse drawn rides, and pumpkin picking, all with the smell of apple pies and hot soups wafting around the farm. These days sure have gone by quickly as there is plenty of work at the farm with what seems to be not enough time.

Our field crew has been harvesting storage crops for our winter storage specials of winter squash, beets, and potatoes. Our hydroponics system is up and running with enough salad mix to last us well into December. We are still harvesting a lot of field greens, cole crops, leeks, and carrots from our fields, thanks to our late summer plantings. It’s hard to believe that in just a few weeks, we will start harvesting greens for making our Christmas wreaths!

Our farm kitchen team is busy making fresh soups and prepared meals while getting enough meat pies prepared to last until the end of the year. That’s a lot of beef since they make one batch per week until the third week of December!!!

In our farm bakery, we are gearing up for Thanksgiving while still focusing on the classic fall treat, pumpkins. Pumpkin rolls with a cream cheese filling, pumpkin cheesecake bars, and pumpkin pecan bars have made their way as mainstays in our farm market this fall.

We’re also taking orders for pies, breads, rolls, treats, side dishes, appetizers, and floral arrangements for the holidays. If you want something for Thanksgiving, please get your order in by November 21

Have you ordered your turkey yet? We have partnered again with Misty Knoll Farm to offer fresh turkeys for Thanksgiving. This has been a 20 year partnership that allows us to offer our customers fresh free-range birds that are juicy, have excellent flavor, and are tender.

People tell us it’s the best turkey they’ve ever cooked. We are accepting turkey orders until November 12, so don’t wait too long. Stop in at the farm or call us for details and to place your order.

So as October draws to a close and we get ready for the next season at the farm, be sure to visit us! We're open 7 days a week from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.
