Jeff's Farm Update: Changing seasons

After all these years of living in New Hampshire, it still amazes me how fast and extreme the weather can change. I suppose we shouldn’t complain, seeing as the weather has been quite warm for late October. We also know that colder temperatures are on the way, and there is still a lot of farming to be done.

Our field crew has been finishing harvesting some storage crops including potatoes, carrots, and beets. Covering some crops for overwintering and making sure the poinsettias are staying toasty warm and maturing nicely in our Holiday greenhouse. The equipment still needs to be winterized and stored away. But most importantly, we are preparing our fields for the 2021 growing season. This means applying soil amendments and cover crops to add stability, erosion control and put much needed nutrients back into our fields.

Inside our farm market, as November looms and the cool weather returns, the aroma of freshly baked pies and simmering soups radiates from our farm kitchen and farm bakery. It's definitely starting to feel like the holiday season!

Speaking of the holidays, November 13th is the deadline to order your fresh turkeys, and it will be upon us quickly. As we have done for the past 20 years, we have again partnered with Misty Knoll Farm in Vermont. Their birds are raised naturally, are free-ranging, and are fed wholesome grain that is free of antibiotics. This stress-free environment results in a more robust, meatier turkey that is healthier and more flavorful.

Also, don’t forget to pre-order pies and sides so you can relax and have a less stressful Thanksgiving Day! See what we have to offer by clicking here.

Finally, several of you have asked about our hours. With the exception of a few days, we are open everyday from 8 am to 5 pm through the end of the year. We look forward to seeing you!
