John's Update: The State of the Farm

As the year draws to a close, I am reporting to you, our friends and supporters, the farm is finishing the year in good shape. This success is due to many factors: a record number of customers, a loyal and hardworking team, generous landowners allowing us more growing space, and certainly after the cold, wet spring, the delightful summer and fall weather.

We were able to bring our hydroponic lettuce greenhouse on line this year and grew our best crop of field and greenhouse tomatoes ever! Corn was harvested continually from mid-July to the first of November, over 100 days. I can remember when 30 days was the norm!

Our farm kitchen and bakery crew prepared a record number of dishes and baked goods. Their excellent work is making this our fastest growing part of the farm.

If you’ve been to the farm in the past few weeks, you’ve seen that we’re having some work done on our farm market. In the new year, this addition will improve your checkout process and enclose Sal’s Fresh Seafood. Work on our kitchen will prepare for an events greenhouse that we have planned for some time in the future.

Elsewhere on the farm, a new growing tunnel is under construction, and we're overhauling our older greenhouses for more vegetable growing. By the third week in January we will be starting seeds for our greenhouse tomatoes and hydroponic lettuce. The snow may be flying, but we will already be working on growing food for you!

I and the entire farm team so appreciate the incredible support and recognition we receive from the community and our friends from near and so far away. Thank you all!

We wish you a joyous Christmas and a safe and happy 2020!

John
