Our May 6 open house is a "must attend" event for gardeners

Our open house on Saturday, May 6th, is shaping up to be a great event for gardeners as well as for people who do not garden.

From 10 am to 2 pm enjoy sampling food and baked goods from our farm kitchen and bakery. Meet and speak with people from the many of the local businesses and small food producers we partner with. Everett Bailey, a master maker of Shaker brooms, will also be demonstrating how he makes his brooms.

Gardeners of all experience levels will enjoy multiple free garden related events during the day. These include:

At 10 am Kyle and Wes will lead a free workshop called “Planting Techniques for Better Harvests” that takes you into our fields, tomato house, and hoop houses to learn about transplanting, plant spacing, trellising, and mulching. Some of the tools we use will also be shown. If you are attending this free workshop, wear mud friendly clothing and sturdy footwear as the workshop will primarily be in our fields which are uneven and can be muddy.

At noon John will present our free workshop “Tips for a Healthy and Productive Garden” discussing soil health and nutrient needs for traditional gardens, succession planting and container gardens.

Kelly McAdam, from the University of New Hampshire’s Cooperative Extension, will be at the farm to answer gardening related questions from 1 pm to 3 pm.

If you are interested in growing fruit trees, hydrangeas, and the other shrubs we sell, be at the farm from 2 pm to 4 pm to learn how best to care for them and what varieties would be best for the space you have.

From 3 pm to 5 pm a representative from Coast of Maine, which provides many of the organic soils, mulches and fertilizers available at our garden center, will be giving demonstrations and answering questions. This is a great opportunity to learn how to sustainably feed your soil and ask questions.

Our greenhouses will be open throughout the day. Our knowledgeable staff will be available to answer questions about the many flowers and early season vegetable plants we are growing for your home gardens and window boxes.

With the first 50 purchases of the day we will be giving away the $5 in “bonus bucks”, good towards a purchase during a future visit.

Fall Fun Come to the farm for fall fun!  Find your favorite pumpkin, get lost in our corn maze, enjoy one of our fall festivals, and enjoy great tasting food at our farm market.
